Why you want to know more about working remotely, leading virtual teams or online teaching

Imagine that you are invited to a virtual meeting. If you are like me, you try to log-in the night before the actual virtual meeting to make sure that you know how the system works. To your surprise, as soon as you click the link to the meeting (that was sent to you) you are in a video conference that is being recorded and your camera and microphone are on. You then realize that you do not know how stop the recording, and the video has captured what you look like in your nice comfy flannel pajamas with a -not so flattering -messy kitchen background since you decided to log in from your... kitchen table. I can share many more anecdotes about the importance of having the right settings-as a host- for a video conference (or a virtual class, for that matter) and other best practices. But instead I have decided to create a blog with what I have learned along the way in 13 years (or so) of working and teaching remotely (some of you have asked me to share best practices in working with virtual teams or working remotely). At some point I will create videos (it can take about 4 hrs. to create an “instructionally" well designed 30 min video that my current institution does not own). In the meantime keep an eye of my posts. Each one will cover a different topic related to online teaching, working remotely, and leading virtual teams.
